Macrobiotic diet followers believe that the food they eat plays a direct role in all aspects of well-being, including their physical, mental and spiritual health. The diet was originally made in Japan by George Ohsawa, who believed a person’s diet must be balanced in order for yin and yang their being. The macrobiotic diet consists of vegetarian and organic foods that are low in fat and high in fiber
Importance
Foods such as whole grains, vegetables, fermented soy, soups, fruits, nuts, seeds, and small portions of fish are staples of a macrobiotic diet.

According PCC Health Notes, in a macrobiotic diet, “50 to 60% of the diet should be whole grain, 25 to 30% of vegetables, 5 to 10% miso and bean soups and 5 to 10% beans and sea vegetables.”
Whole grains and flour products
Whole grains such as short-grain brown rice, medium grain brown rice, barley, millet, oats, whole oats, rye and buckwheat should be eaten most often.
Vegetables
Vegetables should be included in every meal, especially those that fall into the categories of leafy greens (collard greens, Daikon greens, dandelion greens, kale, leeks, mustard greens and watercress), rounds (broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and squash) and roots ( carrot, dandelion roots, lotus root, parsnips and radishes).
Beans Soups
Beans, like black soybeans, chickpeas, green or brown lentils and soups and broths that are primarily bean or vegetable make up the rest of the diet.
Consideration
food and beverages that are acidic, contain caffeine or dairy or artificially sweetened should be avoided. That being said, macrobiotic diet may not be right for everyone, and you should always consult your doctor before beginning any new dietary regime.
