Lipids are fats, waxes and oils that the body uses every day to work. ?. These organic molecules also gives the body, helping to produce energy and even helps control our vitamin and hormone use in our bodies. Lipids is one of four major organic parts of our body that includes lipids, proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids.

There are six types of lipids found in our body. These lipids include: fatty acids, unsaturated, saturated, monosaturated, polysaturated and triglycerides. Different lipids have different functions, including energy storage, cell membrane structure and absorption of vitamins.
Lipids store energy using triglycerides. Since there are several CH bonds, and not as many C = O bonds, the lipid is able to store more energy than even carbohydrates. Triglycerides hold 9 calories verses the 4 calories as carbohydrates do. Because lipids are hydrophobic, it means that they are not taking on water and can thus group together with a smaller mass than the carbohydrate that makes them more efficient energy storage. But it also makes lipids the culprit in epidemics such as obesity, as the body tends to favor fat over carbohydrates to store energy in the body.
Lipids make up much of the cellular membranes in the body, including cellular plasma membranes and the membranes of organelles. Without these lipids essential vitamins would not be able to be absorbed and used by the body.
