Food Takes Longer To Digest Than Others?

Digestion is the process that breaks food down into the smallest possible parts so that the body can convert it into energy. When we eat food passing through the esophagus to the stomach where the digestive juices convert food to proteins, sugars and fats. When food leaves the stomach, it goes into the small intestine where it is absorbed as nutrients in the body, or gone further along to be expelled from the system as waste. How long it takes to digest a meal depends on what you’ve eaten. Red meat can take three days to digest, while fruits and vegetables make fewer than 12 hours.

The body is not able to break down the fibers. . Foods high in fiber are oats, beans and carrots. Although the body can not digest these foods, we still need them. Fiber helps regulate intestinal function, which is necessary to rid the body. Fruits and vegetables high in fiber may take several hours to digest.

About 97 percent of the red meat we eat is highly digestible — yet, proteins remain in the stomach longer than food that is considered less digestible, like fiber. Because of the many features of protein in the body, it can take from one to three days to digest beef, eggs or nuts.

Fat molecules provide a rich source of nutrients to the body. They isolate the cells, provide energy and support the immune system. Essential fatty acids needed for a healthy diet are found in nuts and fish. As proteins, these foods take longer to digest than high in fiber since the body uses a lot of it for energy.
carbohydrates
Carbohydrates contain about 40 percent of the energy needed to feed the body. Most dietary carbohydrates come from grains, fruits and vegetables. Highly digestible, it takes carbohydrates under three hours to pass through the system.
Starch
The body’s main source of glucose, or energy, comes from starch. This includes foods such as corn and potatoes. Digest these starches may take three to four hours — which is not considered a long time when it comes to digest food.
