Eating Enough Fruit For Good Health

Fruit is one of the main food groups required for human nutrition. Adequate servings of fruit deliver a number of important nutrients that are important for good health. Learn What Foods is part of the Fruit Food Group. All edible fruit and some 100% fruit juice is included in the fruit group. The fruits may be fresh or frozen, canned or dried. They may be whole, cut up or pureed. These different forms of fruit supply important nutrients necessary for good health, including potassium, vitamin C, dietary fiber and folic acid. As always, it is good to eat a variety of foods in the fruit group and not just rely on two or three.

Get Whole Fruit servings you need. Most adults require 3 to 4 servings of fruit a day to protect their good health. It is the same as 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit per day. For dinner pineapple, pear, peach or, or have a Waldorf salad with apple slices or a fruit salad. Mix it up a bit on a daily basis, so you do not get bored with a particular combination.

Have more fruit for dessert and snacks. Pears and peaches and baked apples make great desserts. The cut-up fresh fruit and dried fruit make for great snacks. The key is to have them on hand and setting the example for children who are in the house. Raisins, bananas, apples, melon slices, pineapple slices, oranges, cherries, and several other fruits make great snacks.
