There are several methods for cooking oats. However, the best way for a diabetic cooking oats without sugar. As diabetics know, sugar cause insulin levels to rise. While it may seem there are things that a person with diabetes just can not have, there are ways to do almost anything available on a diabetic diet. Strawberries and cream Oatmeal
Low-fat skimmed milk

Strawberries and cream oatmeal is something that most diabetics can enjoy. To do, only warm water as suggested on oatmeal container. While the water is heated add the diced strawberries in pot. Use a ¼ cup strawberries per serving. Then add low fat skimmed milk, ½ cup per serving, and two tbsp. of butter per serving. To sweeten use a favorite non-sugar sweetener, such as Splenda. Let it heat the water until boiling. Add the recommended amount of oatmeal for dining, and cook until done. Be sure to stir constantly.
This process is great for people who have to watch their sugar intake.
For people who need extra protein, add a scoop of a favorite soy protein powder in water until oatmeal is added. This will increase protein levels without adding calories or sugar

2/3 cup margarine or butter, melted
1 12/2 cups quick cook oats
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sugar substitute like Splenda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup skim milk
½ cup raisins
¼ cup soy protein powder
In a large bowl, combine butter and oats. Stir in egg, vanilla sugar and Splenda. Add flour, baking powder, salt and protein powder. Stir well. Add milk and stir in raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on prepared cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes
Easy Chocolate Refrigerator Cookies

1 u00BD cup sugar substitute or Splenda
u00BD cup skim milk
two sticks of margarine
u00BC cup soy protein powder
Mix ingredients in a large bowl and then drop onto waxed paper. Let cookies cool in the fridge for a few hours. These are really good and have a good amount of protein in them.
