IGF-1 or insulin growth factor 1, is a protein-based anabolic steroid similar to insulin that is used to increase testosterone and muscle growth in their users. As with all anabolic steroids, a number of side effects, ranging from relatively mild to severe, can be caused by use
Inhibition of natural hormones
Inhibition of natural hormones are the most common side effect of steroids. When you ingest an outside source of hormones in the body, it sends a message to the endocrine system that no longer needed to produce it. Your body does this to remain in a state of equilibrium and does not want to produce too much of a chemical. When steroids are stopped, the body no longer produces enough of that particular hormone, leaving the body without vital hormones it needs to remain at the homeostasis.
Increased aggression, more commonly known as “roid rage,” is a common side effect of steroids. This is usually attributed to the elevated levels of testosterone in the body and can lead to increased violence and even psychosis. It is important to note that the personality of the individual play an important role in whether these symptoms persist. If the individual is already subjected to aggression and violent behavior, the steroids probably increase these characteristics. Conversely, those with more passive personalities do not experience increased aggression at all.
Anabolic steroids pass through the liver after being processed by the body, leaving the possibility that repeated steroids can cause liver damage. When something is processed by the liver, it is broken down by enzymes and later passed into the bloodstream. Steroids cause liver enzymes to be elevated after they finish breaking it down, and eventually this can lead to long term damage.
Gynocomastia shows the feminization of the breast tissue and the development of female breast characteristics, a side effect that is very common with the use of anabolic steroids. In addition to increasing testosterone, steroids also increase estrogen levels in its users to counteract the influx of hormones being ingested. This excess estrogen finds its way into the breast tissue by the user and bind to tissues that are already there, leading to an increase in fat tissue. Common indicators of gynocomastia are itchy nipples and chest pains. Exit steroids when any of these symptoms are present.
There are several reproductive problems that can occur as a result of increased levels of testosterone present using steroids. These include prostate enlargement, shrinkage of the testicles, and sterility. It is important to note that many of these problems occurs only after prolonged steroid use.
It is important to realize that these events are a result of using any anabolic steroids, not only IgE-one.
If you experience any of these side effects, you must seek the help of a medical professional immediately.
