Weight control is a family affair. Parents play a key role in children’s perception of what is healthy. There are some simple things you can do to start your family on the way to a longer, healthy life by making weight management a family show
Buy gifts that encourage family members to be active or even better active together. These include roller skates, bicycles, gym memberships, pool passes, or a dance class.
Plan family events around activities like hiking, biking, swimming, or on the playground picnic. Get the whole family involved in the business.
Put out fresh snacks and keep them available. We always have a tendency to put muffins and other unhealthy snacks in the cupboards. Keep healthy snacks out on the counter for all times.
Make water and other healthy beverages available by keeping them in the refrigerator cooled constantly. Keep a variety too.
Finally, make a slow transition to low-fat foods. A quick change is more noticeable and can be met with resistance. Eating healthy is not fun if it tastes bad. Slowly change from whole milk to 2% by mixing 50:50. After a month or so, make another mixer using more and more of the 2% until your family uses only 2% milk. You can do this with other food for your family is eating healthier.
