The Difference Between The D-ribose And Ribose

Carbohydrates, like ribose, can exist in more than one form. Various configurations or forms, ribose have different biological functions
Feature and Purpose
Ribose, a type of sugar, poses many of biomolecules present in the human body. It is an important part of ribonucleic acids, or RNA.
types
Since ribose is not a symmetric molecule, it comes in two configurations, D-Ribose and L-Ribose. The letter “D” stands for dextrorotatory, “L” stands for levorotatory, which shows how the side chains of ribose is organized around a reference point known as chirality center. Because D-Ribose is the most abundant form, the name is shortened to just “ribose.”
Use of Ribose
The body produces D-Ribose. D-Ribose supplementation improves certain conditions, such as increased blood flow to the heart. L-Ribose is rarer and more expensive to produce than D-Ribose. Although the body does not use L-Ribose, the pharmaceutical value as the basis for many drugs.
