Bioidentical Hormones

Bioidentical Hormones

Bioidentical hormones are plant -deriverte hormones that are promoted as an alternative to conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopausal women. as the name implies, they are alleged to be identical to the hormones produced in the human women in terms of molecular structure. . . but even if bioidentical hormones are derived from plants, they do not occur naturally in place, they are synthesized from chemicals found in soy and yams
in a setback maneuver, the producers of one of the most popular HRT drugs petitioned u. s. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to restrict the availability of composite bioidentical hormones, but without success. however, had the FDA already taken notice of claims being touted by some pharmacies that BHRT compounds can prevent stroke, some cancers, and Alzheimer’s disease. While the FDA took action against the use of these misleading claims, they did not prohibit the sale of bioidentical hormones. it is also interesting to note that the term bioidentical has no regulatory definition, which means that it has become an advertising word much like “natural” or “eco-friendly. ‘
apply the security, there is no solid evidence to suggest that bioidentical hormones are any safer than FDA-approved HRT drugs. In fact, some doctors believe that they may pose as much risk as their synthetic counterparts alike. There is also concern that individually complex formulas can not be compared with any standard protocols to measure safety and efficacy. Finally, there is a school of thought that argues hormonal replacement therapy of any kind involves a degree of risk and should only be given in the short term to reduce severe menopausal symptoms.
several clinical studies on bioidentical hormones have been completed, a middle-of-the-road approach may be most appropriate. That said, there are several FDA-approved bioidentical estrogen and progestin formulas available in various dosages and forms that do not require inconsistent compounding.
